Our mission
The OneStop4All will be the central web-based access point to the NFDI4Earth resources and services. Its search functionality will tap into the NFDI4Earth Knowledge Hub as well as the connected remote sites and address the user requirements on the wide variety of NFDI4Earth resources. This includes searching for information on a range of RDM topics (e.g. on FAIR principles), finding and publishing data, engaging with education and training materials, exploring and using advancing tools and any other future resources.
The design of the OneStop4All follows the user requirements, by collecting user stories and developing user scenarios, and will be structured in an intuitive and appealing way. We will offer search options for different experience levels of the users and provide hierarchical filter options and annotations to narrow down the search results across the different NFDI4Earth resources to a manageable number. Whenever the OneStop4All cannot directly answer the requests by the users, the questions will be passed on to the User Support Network as a 2nd level support in NFDI4Earth.
The basis for the structure and functionality of the OneStop4All is a collection of user stories. Each user story consists of a persona, a specific request (e.g. find a certified data repository), and a reason for the request. Summarising these stories according to their main topics of requests, we obtain, (i) a subset of unique user stories describing the most common requests and (ii) a list of categories, topics and search attributes. The subset of user stories is further developed into user scenarios, including a detailed description of the persona and a step-by-step description of the user’s actions within the OneStop4All to reach a satisfying answer. The user scenarios hence contain the information on the different necessary software features for a good user experience and form the basis for the implementation of the OneStop4All.
The summary of categories and topics from the user stories determines the structure and envisioned functionalities of the OneStop4All. They are used both for the design of a hierarchical, guided search option as well as for filtering the results of a general search field entry. In the process of building the NFDI4Earth system, the information on the categories from the user requirements is also essential to match other components such as the Knowledge Hub, the Living Handbook and Education and Training materials.
